A SMOULDERING QUESTION?

A SMOULDERING QUESTION?

FRETWORK has given careful thought to the “other” type of ignition source considered in the context of Upholstery fire risk.

We believe there is a strong argument to re-evaluate this aspect. It could be that we are either NOT testing at all or testing BADLY under present thinking.

What is clear is that Smoke and Toxic Fumes (STF) remain the main factor in injury and death related to UK Domestic fires involving upholstered furniture.

It is also clear that rapidly escalating fires involving thermoplastic materials do not easily fit into this scenario.

It is clear that analysing fire scenarios for STF emissions and Peak Rate of Heat Release from totally consumed articles offers little meaningful insight into STF Risk.

This is what STF looks like – no flames, no apparent immediate threat and the whole item could likely be consumed without any sign of flame and rapid escalation.

Set 4 G Time stamp 13:49:06 This is getting a bit OTT.
